Gateway 6842b

FYI none of the Sigmatel / IDT drivers posted in this thread work on this notebook with XP (its fine with Vista)

Tried dozens of drivers - they detect and install but every time Code 10 Device Cannot Start

The model again is gateway 6842b

WU even detects drivers and installs - same problem

Also tried driverpacks.net pack and driveragentt / driver detective

All recognize a driver but errors every time

Ive read hundreds of ppl having issues with this with no solution - would be great to find it

note: ALL other drivers install ok inc the troublesome motorola modem

do you mean the MT6824b can't find a 6842b model, this model has the same Vista audio driver version and lists an XP driver as well.

check this out

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

also under Device Manager / System Devices / is the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture showing as being installed

these are the drivers for that MSI MS-7211 - audio and vga drivers are listed http://asia.msi.com.tw/index.php?fun...=1&prod_no=234

these drivers will only work if both your audio and monitor sockets are on the I/O plate - see here http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions
