ok folks, I'm no expert when it comes to computers so any help you can give in regards to my problem would be apprecaited in an 'idiots guide' format.
my computer is a couple of years old but sitll works great (so no need to get a new one) however, having recently purchased a 60Gb ipod and only having a 30Gb internal hard drive I was fast running out of space. My solution to this was to buy an external hard drive, which I bought just under a month ago. It was working fine, I've put all my music for the ipod onto one half of it (its a 120Gb hard drive but its split up into two bits for some reason) and photos, files and other miscellaneous stuff on the other half, but last week when I went to plug it in it didn't show up in 'My Computer'. Previously it showed up as two drives (E: and F

and also the little icon that appears next to the clock (for safe removal) also listed it (and I've used this everytime I've disconnected it). Now when I plug it in, it doesn't appear in 'My Computer' but it still appears under the little icon beside the clock BUT whereas previoulsy it had (E: and F

in brackets, now it simply says 'Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device' so obviously my computer is recognising it as 'something' but I can't get into to it to see my files.
Just to note, I have tried plugging it in to two other laptops and its the same problem (it doesn't appear in either of them also).
I have read some of the other threads to see if someone has a similar problem. I've looked in 'Disk Management' and there are two volumes listed:
Volume Layout Type File System Status Capacity Free Space
(blank) Partititon Basic FAT Healthy 39MB 32MB
(EISA Configuration)
(C

Partition Basic NTFS Healthy 27.9GB 3.2GB
(System)
I don't think the 'blank' one is referring to the external hard drive.
I have also looked in device manager, under 'Dick Drives' it is listed as 'disk drive'
I dont think i previously mentioned that the hard drive is connected to my laptop through the usb port and it is also powered through it.
To be honest I dont know what I'm supposed to looking for or looking at, any help or advice that can be given would be hugely apprecated.
Thanks.
