sound/audio not working at all

i have a dell 8400 and an IT guy recently came over and re-installed windows and wiped the hard-drive, so i had to install everything again, all my games (bf2, 2142, WoW) all work, however i have no sound. So i re-installed the Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio from......... http://support.euro.dell.com/support...ileid =122481 ...........which i saw in another thread, but it came up with this message
The audio driver files do not support your ccomputer hardware.

Note: if you uninsalled audio software without restarting your PC, restart not, and run this setup again.

......so i did, but still, nothing.

i went to control panel> sounds and audio devices > hardware, and i found the Unimodem half-duplex audio device.

Any help avaliable would be GREATLY appreciated.

That model can have a sound card

onboard ADI 198x - audio plugs near keyboard , mouse ete on the I/O plate

Sound card SoundBlaster - near bottom of tower in an exspansion slot.

Go back to Dell / choose Chipset - Intel Software Installation Utility - install then RESTART your comp

then install audio driver again

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE

Hope this helps
