MPU-401 Compatible Media Devices - Cannot start properly!

Hi, I am having troubles getting my sound to work properly, along with my microphone volume (It wont get louder). I tried reinstalling, and only after I reformatted my computer did I have these problems. I would like some help, thankyou in advance.
