Step 1: Google
Step 2: Dell website
Step 3: Search model number in Technical Support
Step 4: Select drivers (top left)
Step 5: You end up here Dell Dimension 2400 drivers page (Click me)

it's that easy

Look through the disks that came with your Dell for one that says on the label that it contains drivers.

With Windows running, put that CD in the CD drive. When it starts up, read the instructions it will display on how to use the disk.

Install the "System" drivers first, then the rest.

I may be wrong but I presumed he had no disks, resulting in the query, if he has the disks then your post would be the way to go, if not then the website is the place to be. If he formatted (reinstalled the OS from the disks) the drivers would have been installed, no?

EDIT: This assumes they are Dell recovery disks

go here to Dell http://support.euro.dell.com/support...=uk&l=en&s=gen

select Dimension - 2400

Click Category - Chipset install intel Software Installation utility this will correct sm bus and usb

Check Device Manager to see if the ethernet is still needed if so then

click Category - Network this is ethernet, but more than 1 you will need to know which you need

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE

The Dell disk labeled "Operating System" really just an XP installation disk with some Dell stuff thrown in.

All the Dells I've bought and worked on (about a dozen or so) have arrived with a disk labeled "Operating System" and another with the drivers on it. The driver disk has a lot of drivers on it so it will be usable with a number of different systems. It provides a way to choose the model and operating system so the correct drivers will be selected.

There was a short period of time when Dells shipped without disks but as i recall, that didn't last long.

ah, OK, I don't have much to do with Dells and just assumed (apparently incorrectly) that they shipped with a standard "brand name pc" recovery disk/s

I just looked at the Optiplex box that came with this work pc and yes, there are two disks, OS and device drivers.

You were on the money
