Guess what? No sound after reformatting

Like several other people on this forum I seem to have problems with my sound after reformating. It appears (on my device manager) that my "Multimedia Audio Controller" is 'out-of-whack' with the big yellow question mark that has been on my mind for the past 24 hours.

I am running a Dell Dimension 8300, before I reformatted I used my on-board sound card.
