Unhappy New OS System = No Audio Detected

My Dell XPS's hard drive failed so I asked a friend of mine to replace the hard drive. When he did, he also replaced my XPS O/S with XP Professional. Now I get no sound. I have read dozens of the forum threads, and I have went to the Dell Tech Support and redownloaded the chipset and driver supposedly for my service tag number, but I am still having difficulty. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is happening?

Following are the specs on my computer:

Your system info shows no sound driver installed. If you have installed the official Dell sound driver for your model of PC but still no sound, this could be because the system has had a PCI soundcard installed, in which case the on-board original sound-chip has been disabled in the BIOS settings.

Option 1 - remove the PCI soundcard, go into the BIOS setup and re-enable the integrated or on-board sound device. To get into the BIOS setup you usually hold down the 'Delete' key as soon as you power up, until the blue BIOS screen appears.

Option 2 - Leave BIOS settings alone. Identify the PCI soundcard by manual inspection, then download driver for that from the soundcard maker's website.

resolved - next issue

Thanks for your reply.

I ended up reinstalling the chipset family. Rebooted. Downloaded the second option of audio drivers for my service tag number (Sigmatel) on Dell's site. Rebooted. Voila! Glorious sound!

Now my next issue is, since I've lost Media Center due to my "friend" changing my operating system, I don't have a way to view TV and record TV anymore.

I downloaded what I thought I remembered my TV Tuner to be, then I downloaded the Catalyst Control Center, yet I get an error message stating that my graphics adapter doesn't support the program....

Any suggestions?
