i plugg sound devices up in the topp....

Go here to ECS and install the NVIDIA chipset - then Restart your comp
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Dow...uID=39&LanID=8

Then get audio from Realtek http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Unless there is a major problem, leave the BIOS alone, if done wrong it can lead to the system failing altogether. Just get the chipset and audio drivers.

Thanks for the quick reply, but it seems none of the drivers mentioned supports Vista, only XP and so on.. so I will need to get off my lazy bottom and buy a new sound card? Or is there any other way? Cheers

Maybe I got it wrong, but when I chose Vista as OS on the dell site, no Audio drivers came up. As far as I know its an onboard sound card. The Dimension 2400 has the same ADI 198x driver for XP as your model and a Vista version is available for download - see here

I've got this issue too, but on a Dimension 4700.

According to a list I saw the 4700 is not supported for the same driver as 2400 and 8400. Is there a Vista 32 driver for the onboard audio for the 4700?

thanks!

The Xp driver should work, but you have to tell Windows to use it - see this

I have installed the DELL drivers to Windows Server Longhorn, so they should work under Vista. First download and start the install; this will expand the drivers to "C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R78477", but the install will then fail with unsupported OS message. Now go to Vista Device manager, right click on the sound card and "Update Drivers". In the drivers update wizard select "Search My computer for drivers" then Browse to the directory containing the extracted drivers "C:\DELL etc". Be sure to check the "SEARCH SUBDIRECTORIES checkbox! Vista should then search these drivers and load the appropriate Vista drivers.

This is the driver http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=122481
