Onboard sound horrible. Worked in Linux.

I have a custom built computer:
Intel Celeron D
ECS C19 A SLI Motherboard http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...nuID=1&LanID=9
Realtek ALC883 8-channel audio CODEC
1 GB RAM
1 120 GB IDE Drive
1 320 GB SATA Drive
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2
Hauppauge PVR 150 TV Tuner
Hauppauge PVR 250 TV Tuner
Netgear WG311T Wireless Network Card
Streamzap remote control
Antec Sonata II case

The sound has been working well connected to my stereo for over a year as a Fedora Core 4 Myth Box using the ALSA drivers. I recently installed Windows XP Pro on it and found that the sound is horrible. It is extremely loud, has no bass, and cracks and pops so loud I have to turn it off for fear it will hurt my speakers.

I installed the latest Realtek Driver R1.75 last night and that didn't do it. I removed the old driver, installed R1.75 and no change. I tried doing it as a device update and still no change.

I had already installed the motherboard drivers that came with my motherboard. Only the sound drivers have been updated because everything else works.

Please don't suggest a sound card because I'm out of slots on the motherboard. I'm apprehensive about flashing the motherboard because the ECS site release notes don't list an audio fix.

So I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

Scott

Fixed it

After trying lots of driver combinations and giving up I noticed that there was another cable to my stereo that ran near my computer. I usually use it to connect my iPod to my stereo. I tried that cable and the sound works wonderfully.

So the connection that worked in Linux didn't work in Windows.

It is fixed now.
