Unhappy SoundMax driver probs! PLEASE HELP!

I had this posted in the wrong place, week later and no help, please try to help someone, I need this driver BAD!
Please help me on this sound driver, I have seen many awnsers here, but they dont work.
Gateway 300x cel
Intel 845GE chipset
serial # on case= 0031894304
I saw soundmax drivers, I tried to install them, they say "no driver found, please restart and reinstall" or something to that fact.
I am so irratated lol, I did install the chipset drivers first also, I cannot find the right Sound driver or Ethernet driver for the life of me!
I had this happen along time ago, but cannot remember what was the solution 8(
Thanks to anyone who can help, I really need a solution bad...

These are your drivers from gateway http://support.gateway.com/support/d...s=Windows%20XP

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All programes / System Tools / System Restore / Create a restore point and follow instructions
