multimedia audio controller

hello, i have a computer with a motherboard, NEC MS-6786. I have tried my hardest to find the audio controller drivers, looking on the packard bells site with the serial number from the computer. Installing the chipset drivers and then reinstalling the audio driver, but I just can't seem to get it to work. Any help would be appreciated

in the device manager, in "Sound Video and Game controllers"...

unimodem half-duplex audio device has a speaker icon
realtek AC'97 audio for via (R) audio controller has a yellow and black exclamation mark

Also, in the display adapters

VIA/S3G Unichrome IGP has the exclamation mark

Check this out to see if Realtek is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

post the Belarc report

I tried that, but device manager still seems to think that the driver is corrupt or missing.

Are your audio plugs on the I/O plate or in a expansion slot, see here, click image to focus http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

If you're having issues installing drivers, it's either a corrupted driver, or it's an Operating System problem.

Reinstall your OS to see if this works, failing that you could have a duff sound card / motherboard issue.

It is set to auto. If possible I would like to be able to resolve this problem without reinstalling windows as there is software on the pc which I have lost the disks for.

Check these out

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

try this

Try a System File Check go to Run – type “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes and note space after sfc) have Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. The programme runs with no alerts and then closes.
