your serial number does not have any drivers, these are the drivers for a 500S model, but used a different serial number
http://support.gateway.com/support/d...s=Windows%20XP

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start instructions / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow

when I clicked the link you gave it just sent me to the page where it ask for my serial number.. I don't know too much about computers but It says something about Unimodem Half-duplex Audio device, and I see something else that says Legacy Audio Drivers. I was just looking in the Device Manager and seen this.

Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates. See if it gives any clues

Yes the Other Devices Tab has a yellow question mark, and the drop down box says Multimedia Audio Controller has a yellow question mark and Exclamation mark.

try installing this way, use the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow instructions
