USB Flash driver doesn't seem to work?

(WinXP Home SP2; OE 6; IE 6; Dell Dimension XPS T450MHz Pentium III; Free Version 7.5.503; spybot S&D; ad-aware; cable modem; WordPerfect8; Lexmark Laser printer "Optra E310")

Hello, I hope I'm in the right forum. I searched for this problem but wasn't lucky.

I just plugged in my newly purchased "USB Kingston Data Traveler 4GB Flash Driver" to backup my computer...but instead, I get strange messages, mostly on "how to safely unplug the hardware device", or "stop it", etc. (???).

Also, a popup msg says to use a certain name (dont' recall) because it is faster...

I thought all I had to do was plug it in and wait to see what appeared on the screen in order to follow the steps to backing up...

Would a kind soul please help me by telling me HOW to do it? Thanks ever so much! Adela

A little more info, pls

The messages you report to us sound like you are unplugging the drive:
"how to safely unplug the hardware device", or "stop it"

you get this message: popup msg says to use a certain name (dont' recall) because it is faster becaue you are plugging it into a USB1.0 port (and it really does make a difference).

In order to be helpful, we'll need to know what version of Windoze you are using: Win98, WinME, W2K, XP, Vista.

It may be that you need to go to the directory on the flash drive and manually start the installation program for backing up

Hello Andersen and thank you. This is what I have in my computer:

(WinXP Home SP2; OE 6; IE 6; Dell Dimension XPS T450MHz Pentium III; Free Version 7.5.503; spybot S&D; ad-aware; cable modem; WordPerfect; Lexmark Laser printer "Optra E310")

I guess I didn't know my computer had a different version. I asked and was told that yes it will fit...

I wonder, would it be easier for me to change the flash drive for a lower version to fit my computer? If not, you suggest to go to the directory of the flash drive and do it by hand? I'm not well versed in technical things, but I'll try it and hopefully I won't make a mess. LOL!

Thanks again, and I wish you a Healthy, Peaceful, Safe and Happy 2008. Adela
