No Sound - codecs messed up or missing?

The sound on my computer will only come out of a USB headset that I have plugged in for VOIP. Speakers that I plug in are not recognized in the audio settings; the headset is the only option there. In Device Manager, under Sound, Video and Game Controllers, all the drivers are said to be functioning properly. I have messed with it some, trying to install codecs which may not have been the correct ones, following other people's progress in forums, and have hopefully uninstalled those correctly.
Can you Please Help?
Here is my data from Belarc (I had to remove some SP3 entries as the message was first reported too long to post):

There's no mention of a sound device in your belarc report which means either the driver is not installed (in which case it would show as "unknown device" in Device Manager", or that the soundcard is broken (Device Manager won't tell you that, it only lists installed drivers and driver errors). However, the belarc report also does not give us enough info regarding the motherboard manufacturer which is required to get the correct driver. The only reference is "board NF-MCP61" but no manufacturer. What is the make and model of your PC? If it's custom-built your best option is to fit a new soundcard which comes with it's own driver CD.

Thank you for replying....it is custom-built, and I will try adding a sound card.
