Intel 82801AA AC97 audio problem

I upgraded from windows me to windows xp sp2. My audio was working after the upgrade. I was using msn messenger to communicate over the internet. The last time the audio worked was when I tried MS netmeeting and turned up the volume in netmeeting. I have since uninstalled netmeeting and installed several different drivers, avance, realtek, ect. No help. The speakers work when connected to a laptop I have. When I try to play an MP3 in musicmatch jukebox, I get the error- WaveOut format not supported. Everything is greyed out. In device manager everything shows as working properly. Bios is enabled. Here is the everest log:

The only time I hear a sound from the speakers, is when I uninstall 82801AA audio controller, reboot and new hardware wizard detects multimedia controller and installs KSOLAY.AX. I hear a brief sound while installing. Hope this helps. SY

Are your audio plugs on the I/O plate or in a expansion slot, see here, click image to focus

What make and model is your comp, if not sure Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates

I tried to install the #6 INF update utility, during setup I got the following information window: The current operating system supports the Intel chipset devices on your system. No INF update is needed.

Go here to Lenovo. this is your audio driver from IBM, it's for Win2K so should work in Win XP http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...&validate=true

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

I downloaded d64z16us.exe. I uninstalled the current driver Intel 82801AA AC97 audio driver 5.1.2535.0, restarted detected new hardware and installed the driver I downloaded d64z16us.exe. SEE:
Name: SoundMax Intregated Digital Audio
Analog Devices Inc. SoundMAX 1885 WDM audio driver
for Microsoft Windows 98SE, Me, 2000
version 5.12.01.3002
but still under device manager it shows no audio, recording, midi or playback devices. Under hardware tab device properties:
Manufacture: Analog Devices Inc.
Location: PCI Bus 0, device 31, function 5
Device Status: This device is working properly
Still No Audio, SY

Look at this on how to install, don't remove the Intel 82801AA AC97,

check these out

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.
