cd/dvd drive issues

I looked through the forum but I can't seem to find any help.

My cd/dvd drive will not open at all. I can pop it open using the pinhole opening, but it still doesn't respond. I checked device manager, but it says that the device is running properly. I'm honestly lost at what to do, so any help would be ...well, helpful.

Thank you!

Burning software installed?

Sometimes CD/DVD burner software can keep your tray shut.

I think it is Roxio's (they go by another name now....) Drag to Disk that has to be satisfied before the tray will open. Might be others, too. Has to do with packet writing?

Does the tray open in the boot process - after power is applied and before Windoze takes control?
