Have questions about installing SoundMax when another driver already exists
Hi, I'm not very computer literate and I don't know if I can do this without causing problems.
My old computer used Soundmax and I had 5 speakers (plus a base woofer) that worked perfectly. I had a new computer built several month ago (when I was living in South Korea and computer components are so cheap) and when they loaded it up with software, they installed a different
sound driver. I don't know much about these kind of things...however, the problem is that with the REAKTEK HD Audio Manager, I can't use my 5 speakers. If I plug them in, the music comes out with a LOT of static. So much that I can't listen to them.
I liked using Soundmax...I knew how to use Soundmax. Can I just download Soundmax and install it? Will that let me manage my sound through Soundmax instead of Realtek or do I need to change something? A friend thought I might need special hardware to be compatible with Soundmax. ANY SUGGESTIONS or INSIGHT would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Here are the basics of my computer as I understand them:
Windows XP Service Pack 2
Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Quad CPU @ 2.4 GHz
2.40 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
Oh, and I have the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS Graphics card if that makes any difference.
When I click on the device manager, then click on Sound, Video and Game Controllers it lists "Legacy Audio Drivers" and "RealTek High Definition Audio" among other things.
I use Norton 360 Anti-Virus.
