No sound, deleted driver

Hello. Earlier I was going through my computer and deleting old programs from add/remove program in the control panel. I must have accidently deleted my sound driver because I no longer have sound and I lost the speaker in the system tray. It says my multimedia audio controller is not working properly. I've tried installing many drivers but none have worked. Someone recommended installing asus VIA AC'97 4 in 1 driver from the asus website but that also didn't work. My specs are;

Windows 2000
Desktop
Motherboard Asus A7v600
The only sound information i could find was
VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller PCI
Windows service pack 4

Any help would be great, Let me know if you need any information. Thanks so much

Did you get his from Asus http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

soundmax can be pick, if the setup.exe does not work install this way using the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
