Check this to see if Realtek is the default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

the driver is here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

No: 3 is the video driver from Intel http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21

but Your monitor plug must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion slot then you have a Graphic Card installed, see here, click the image to focus

I am having a not dissimilar problem but this time with Vista.
I originally installed Vista on my desktop PC in May 2007 in order to asses the suitability to use on a day to day basis. I set up the PC as dual boot with Windows XP in another partition of the hard disk. It was working fine using Microsoft’s driver 6.0.6000.16386 until November when I noticed that all sound had disappeared from the Vista installation. (The XP installation still works correctly.)

Among some of the things I have tried to resolve the problem are:-
I followed all the steps in Microsoft’s help pages.
I removed the entry from the Device manager and restarted Vista so that it would find the device and install the driver. No luck there.
I have tried installing the latest drivers from the sound card provider, Realteck 1.87, this made no difference.
In desperation I have re-installed Vista from the installation disks, disallowing any updates from the web, and still no sound.
That last one really beat me. It used to work with the original installation back in May, yet a fresh installation and no sound and the same PC plays sound fine under Windows XP!
When I try to play something and check the sound controls, I get the green volume bar showing on the display, constantly changing, indicating sound present.

Details of my computer are:-

Try pointing Vista to the driver you downloaded, note the path to the Realtek driver you downloaded then

Now go to Vista Device manager, right click on the sound card and "Update Drivers". In the drivers update wizard select "Search My computer for drivers" then Browse to the directory containing the extracted drivers Be sure to check the "SEARCH SUBDIRECTORIES checkbox! Vista should then search these drivers and load the appropriate Vista drivers.
