i found the foxconn cd and downloaded the audio drivers (realtek) but still no luck. In the sound device on the audio tab it is all greyed out. Also i was told to check the bios and that said enabled.?? This is really annoying!

Go here to SiS and use this tool to check what Chipset drivers you need, accept the ActivX it's safe, it will list the SiS drivers you need and links to download and install, the chipset will be one of them. Install then restart your comp and install the audio driver from realtek

try installing this way, check path to where the downloaded driver is

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

SiS can be a pest, have you checked the BIOS to see if audio is Enabled, are you familiar with doing this
