Another Multimedia Audio Controller problem

P.S. I never had this problem before I had ran the starter discs. We had just gottan a new disc drive for the computer and the sound on the computer was still working, but there was no sound for cd's in the drive. Such as games ect. After the computer was stuck on a restart loop, we had to use the starter discs on it to reinstall everything. The sound hasn't worked since. I hope this helps.

What make and model is your comp, are they recovery discs, and do they have drivers on them. Usually when comp stuck in restart loop it's a hardware problem. How many disc drivers do you have.

Its an E machines, theres only one recovery disc. Right not I'm not to sure about the disc. It looks as if our Older brother put the recovery data onto a disc himself. Say's Windows XP Home on it. Theres only one disc driver. The old one broke awhile back (maybe a year or two) and we have just gottan this new one about 2-3 months ago. It's a T-series. T2862.

The drivers are here for the emachine, but as you can see, it can have either realtek or Soundmax audio, get this Soundmax driver, download and unzip the file, make a note of where files are stored and install this way

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

I'm not to sure how to install it that way. When I do that, I can't select the folder, only the ones inside it. When I select the folder it extracted the files to, it says that it doesn't have a certain file type or something. when I start going down the tree of files, I select this "Win2KP" one of something along those lines. When it starts updating the driver, it says that I need the Realtek AC97 audio Driver Disk.

Try the Soundmax driver

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

I clicked the Setup icon in the Soundmax folder and it installed and now it works great! thank you so much for your time!
