Confused about sound problem.

Okay, about 2 weeks ago I purchased a new laptop (ECS Green-732) secondhand, it came with nothing on it, so I formatted the harddisk and installed windows XP home edition with service pack 2, ever since then I have been trying to get the sound working. aida32 tells me that it's a SIS 7012 audio device. But the manufactorers website used to have a download for Avance AC'97 driver, I installed the AC'97 and come up with the error 'this device cannot start.(code 10)'. So I then tried drivers for the SIS 7012 that aida32 mentioned, and that also has code 10. I'm really confused, and have tried other solutions posted on this website. any help is MUCH appreciated.

Do you mean the ECS G732 notebook, if so drivers here http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Pro...uID=59&LanID=9

install this way, do not use the Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Problems Still

Hello,

Firstly, apologies for the delayed reply, I've been occupied elsewhere.

Now, down to the problem. I downloaded the drivers from the ECS website as advised, followed your instructions, and I've got 2 problems:

First problem is, you didn't specify what folder in the downloaded files to use, though the readme.txt says the /WDM/ folder is for Windows XP, so I used that. It had 2 INI files, I tried them both, and they're both XP certified, but neither of them produced a result. The second one just plain remained with "Error code 10, the devide could not start", but the first one refreshed the computer management box and removed the yellow warning exclemation mark for a moment, until it refreshed again, it was back.. any clues there?

Thanks,

Daniel

you may need to check BIOS, but have only just got the manual, I'll post later if you need instructions

link to drivers http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...ID=104&LanID=0

you have to tell XP to use the driver, this way

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

10. Click Finish.

unzip the files to one folder, then in step 7 select the folder where all files are inzipped in

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions
