Angry Gateway MX6433 Audio Issue XP Pro Upgrade

Gateway MX 6433 Audio Issue

I really would appreciate any help- I have been working on this for 2 days- Gateway support is no support a all! I see tht many have this problem. I downloaded both Realtek AC97 (WDM_A404.ex) and the Conexant driver from gateway (D00377-002-002.exe)- I recently upgraded to XP Professional with SP3. 1) I downloaded Realtek Audio Driver 2) Rebooted 3) Downloaded and reinstalled Conexant AC97 Driver 4) Went to device Manager found the realtek audio item under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" Right clicked and selected update driver 5) Selected"No" to connect to windows update 6) Selected "Dont Search" 7) Selected Install from List

8)The next screen shows: Search for the best Drivers in these locations and under Include this location in the search- The Gateway driver is listed as C:\CABS\D00377-002-002 so I select Next and I get the message from Hardware Update Wizard “THE WIZARD COULD NOT FIND A BETTER MATCH FOR YOUR HARDWARE THAN THE SOFTWARE CURRENTLY INSTALLED.” So I select finish and nothing happen

In the compatible hardware in previous step only Realtek is shown if I select it and then bypass The windows logo test screen and continue anyway it looks to install the driver- I get Cannot start this hardware there is a problem installing this hardware Realtek AC’97 Audio This device cannot START (Code 10) Int the cab folder there 9 components: ari2040a,camc6aud,caudinst.dll, readme, storme-eq, ari2040a set up info, cam6hal, HFXSetup and Setup- The latter 2 I tried to use for install and nothing happened.

Please help what am I doing wrong- are there any work arounds- can a new audio chipset or extrernal; device be added to the system?

djohnson3382,

I looked for the Gateway MX6433 driver for you.....on gateway site it says, AC Audio but when specifying the model number it says Sigmatel sound, have you download the sigmatel sound driver too? do you want to give it a try ?

Here is the URL:
