Failed in Finding proper screen mode for gr2d

I have a toshiba notebook from a few years ago, satellite a65- s1069 with windows xp.
I can't view DVD's (although I can hear sound) and when I try to play Maple Story (online game) I get the error message "failed in finding proper screen mode for gr2d".

I know my computer can play this game, because I was playing it with this computer for years. I heard somehting about a video graphics card drive thing, but I'm not sure (don't know what the heck that is). I've reinstalled the default ATI one that my computer originally came with, but that hasn't done anything and I tried to download new versions off the MS site, but it says I don't have the minimum system requirments.

I've had this problem before, but I fixed it (can't remember how) and now I'm just frustrated. Help?

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
