No sound after reinstalling Xp on my HP laptop..

Hi friends,
Recently I have formatted the C drive of my HP laptop and re installed Windows Xp with service pack 2. After that my audio is not working. I have downloaded the audio driver from HP web site and installed but I get the message that the device is not installed. What should I do to get my audio back? Please help me..
