Newbie with yet another "no sound" problem

Hey guys and gals. I just joined this site and this is my first post. I'm not the most computer savvy, so please forgive my ignorance! Anyway last week i contracted a virus which has really gotten on my nerves. Here are the symptoms: I can't access my system information under system tools, i can't reinstall my printer, my theme changes from XP to classic on every startup, and, most annoyingly, I have no sound. This is the problem I want to fix first. I've tried everything I can think of with no luck. I'm on the brink of insanity. I've checked my BIOS, i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my audio codecs, I've read and tried every thread or forum i have found with no luck. Would somebody please help me? My computer is an Inspiron E1705. I really dont want to have to get my PC reformatted, but if I dont have this resolved by this weekend I think that will happen.

Look here:

Download and install the drivers for your sound (I'd recommend the others too), and see what happens.

Judging by the amount of problems you're having, it might well be worth considering a clean renstallation of windows.

Ant, I'm sure I look like a total fool, but that totally worked. You now have permission to refer to me as the stupid Nube. It was so simple. Thank you so much. I HAVE SOUND AGAIN!!! Next time I'll come here first!! Thanks again!!

Not at all, glad you're sorted.

Take the time to copy all your drivers to a CDRom, just in case you do, at some point, have to reinstall Windows, you'll have them to hand.
