can't install WLAN after reformat

I am on a thinkpad r51e - just reinstalled to XP SP3
the WLAN card doesn't show up, but there is a yellow question mark in Device Manager for "Ethernet Controller". It is not the ethernet, b/c that works fine. Here is the Belarc output

what driver do I need, how do I install it? I already tried the one here:

I can't set a system restore point because it says it cannot enable the drive..?

anyway, I tried version 7KWC50WW and that didn't work either

any other ideas? could this have something to do with SP3?

Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section.

read the txt download, look at Determing Which Version is Installed and look at NOTES, it lists what needs to be installed and also you need Windows Installer 3014 or higher installed, it shows how to check your system installations of wireless cards

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

I have tried installing the driver from that link multiple times. Both automatically, and manually pointing to the driver location. Each time it says it cannot install hardware.

I have Windows Installer version 4.5

I can't determine which version I have since the WLAN card only shows up in Device Manager as "Ethernet Controller"

can you look in Device Manager / System Devices / ATI SMBus / check the driver version is it 5.10.1000.4

the driver I was trying to install was for the Intel card, but apparently I have the Atheros card
