Question Sound Driver Problems. Computer Crashes When I Install Sound Driver.

I've read through all of these posts and I just can't figure out what drivers are right for my computer. I've tried RealTek and it crashes my computer into a blue screen or just simply reboots. I've tried Avance with no luck, I've tried a few others as well. I pretty much give up.

I just reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything and I forgot to look up my sound driver. I know it was an AC'97, could have sworn it was an Intel one but everything I've done has just crashed my computer or ended up with a high pitched screeching noise when listening to sound. Anyway, here is my computer info, can someone please help me figure this crap out! THANK YOU in advance!!

Here is some basic stuff, I don't know what else you may need, just let me know and I will copy it. What I got in the report was a lot. So decided to snip it down a bit.

Click on the link below for all the drivers originally installed on your PC.
Sound driver is in the section entitled "Realtek Audio Driver". You may have already tried a Realtek driver, but they are not all the same. You can only be certain of getting the right one by downloading from the motherboard or PC manufacturer.

That would be the one that keeps crashing my computer and making it reboot. I have to then disable onboard sound to get back on my comp and uninstall the drivers. I had Avance on there and it worked but when on Skype or things of that nature talking to people or in a game with the music on and having Winamp in the background, it would either crash my game out and/or make screeching noise.

P.S. Just to be sure I went to that site and downloaded the file and installed it and yes, it crashed my comp over and over til I disabled onboard and uninstalled the driver.

the audio driver will only work if you audio plugs are on the I/O plate

go here to Intel and update the chipset driver - install then Restart your comp - then install audio again from Abit site
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...na l&lang=eng

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

Yep, my plugs are on the I/O plate. I just updated the chipset and reinstalled the driver again. Now I'm going to put some music on and see if it crashes on me again. If it does, I just plain give up on this...

My boyfriend was the one who figured out the driver and had me uninstall the RealTek ones and put another one in and I never had the issue again, but he can't remember what he got for me. *shrug* I'm usually quite fine with computers but this one is from a friend who rebuilt it. He did it so long ago he didn't know what drivers were what and it's proved to be a pain in the arse for me to figure out. I guess in the end if this doesn't work I'll take 50 bucks and go buy a new sound card.

Thanks for the help! Will update ya on how this goes.

Unhappy

Just when I was about to say I must have done something wrong along the line with my own install of my chipset and what not, it crashed again. lol

I've been drilling my other half on what sound driver he sent me a while ago. I didn't have these problems with it. He can't seem to remember though.... So, I know there's a driver out there but it's not Realtek, because Realtek likes to reboot my computer for some screwy reason.

If you can figure out the driver, let me know. Either or, I will be getting a new sound card soon enough because this is just tedious.

what make and model of comp do you have, if not sure Belarc, copy and paste the report but leave out the software license and win update section, the maker may have a different audio chipset on the board
