For your driver, go here to Umax.com . In the list choose your model scanner, and operating system.
But, this is posted on the web page:
Windows XP users: A Windows XP Patch is required. Use the form above to check for Windows XP compatibility. All UMAX parallel port scanners (i.e., Astra 300P, 600P, 610P, 1210P, 1220P, and 2000P) are not supported under XP.
So you may be out of luck. They may release a driver some day but haven't yet.

UMAX Astra 610P
You are not out of luck for the UMAX Astra 610P P.Shofet.
WinXP has a driver built in, use the scanners/cameras in control panel. You will have to search yourself rather than let Win do it as it won't find it. You can then use a graphics program to "Acquire" and then a prompt for the device, UMAX should be there to choose. I haven't installed the UMAX program but it is probably possible using XP's compatibilty mode. Good luck.

Please need help, have Windows XP,no driver for Umax 610P
I have looked everywhere possible for an Umax 610P driver to be used with Windows XP. So far, I have done an extensive search with no luck. I do not want to get rid of my scanner, but it seems that there is no hope in sight. I don't know why Umax doe not support some of their product.
Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance........kiko

610P DOES work in XP!!!!
Like Golden said, your UMAX 610P can be installed and work in WIN XP (even better than with UMAX's software). Firstly, YOU DO NOT NEED A DRIVER to do this!!! DO NOT use your UMAX CD! If your WIN XP is up to date, a driver is contained within the OS. Here is the procedure to get it working:
-turn off your pc
-plug in and turn on your 610P (make sure it is connected to your PC too!)
-power up your pc
-through Control Panel, if you are in Category View, Select "Printers and Other Hardware"
-then Select "Scanners and Cameras"
-on the left side, Select "Add an Imaging Device" and you will get an Installation Wizard to open
-click "Next"
-You will then be asked which scanner or camera you wish to install
-under "Manufacturer" on the left side, Select "UMAX Data Systems Inc."
-model "UMAX Astra 610P" should then appear in the right side window
-DO NOT click "HAVE DISK"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-click "Next"
-it then will ask you to plug in your device into the printer port (of course you've already done that right?"
-click "Next"
-the next window will verify the name of your device; check to see that it is correct, change if necessary
-the next window will confirm that your scanner has been installed and you can exit the "wizard"
-NOW, to use your scanner, after reboot, go to Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, Scanners and Cameras, and Double Click on the "UMAX Astra 610P" icon
-the Scanner and Camera Wizard will open
-click "Next"
-Scanning preferences can be set from that point, just follow the on-screen prompts and Q's
-when you click "Preview", be prepared to wait; it takes awhile
THAT'S IT!!!!
NOW, DO NOT install Vista Scan or any other CD that came with the scanner. YOU DO NOT NEED ANY OF IT!!! Win XP takes care of all!!! AND BETTER!!!
Enjoy! I am now that I can use my 610P again!!!

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: You can use the Windows NT driver for UMAX Astra 610P with Windows XP with absolutely no problem at all!!! I have no idea about Windows 2000 but I EXPECT it works with that also.
In desperation of cause I tried installing the Windows NT driver for my UMAX Astra 610P on my Win XP Home Edition machine. I've had no problem since and the device is working perfectly. I think you shouldn't have any problems either.
I presume this is the case because Win 2000 is 'built on NT technology' and XP... well good books are written from better ones... well XP is built on Win 2000 technology.
Cheers! and Good Luck.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO OTHER FORUMS THAT TOUCH ON THIS SUBJECT OR OTHER PEOPLE IN NEED. I'VE NOT THE TIME TO POST THIS MYSELF FOR ALL WHO MIGHT NEED IT.

I followed adarryl's instructions exactly and I had NO problems installing my Umax 600P scanner. It works perfectly but it does not use the Vista Scan software.

Thanks Able.
That site will not let me register for some reason. Keep getting the voice telling me to register. Only get as far as e-mail address and keeps sending me back to same page. Think I will have to bin scanner. Shame. Never buy Umax.

Umax Astra 610P
I have the drivers for this. I installed it on XP and it works. I also have the old driver disk for windows 98. Umax had mailed me the XP drivers a long time ago and I still have them both. Who wants a copy?
I tried Darryl's suggestions and they are good with one exception: My scanner does not have a shut-off switch and the old Umax drivers installed an icon allowing me to click the scanner light off from my desktop. So I deleted the XP scanner and reinstalled the Umax disk and everything works fine. (I had bought a new computer and the last thing that I installed was the scanner)
