No sound

Hello, I have tried almost everything these past hour to get my sound to work after reformatting my computer, but nothing seem to work. Under Multimedia in Belarc, is says none detected. Here are my specs,
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual
Core processor 4200+
2.21 GHz, 3.00GB of RAM

Under Sound, video and game controllers, there are
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
MEdia Control Devices
Video codecs

I downloaded realtek ac'97 cause I always use that, and it usually works but for some reason it did not this time. help appreciated

need more info what make and model or get Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

also check to see what is default audio
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.
