hp scanjet randomly stops working

I have a usb hp scanjet 3300c. When I installed XP and plugged in the scanner it seemed to be working fine. I downloaded the software from hp that was meant for the scanner and it was working fine. The next morning it didn't work. I went on the website, tried turning off the power management on the usb like it suggested and it worked for a while, but now it no longer works again. I've called tech support and they told me to reinstall the drivers so I did that and it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions? or has anyone ever had this problem? and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Does the scanner have its' own power supply or does it use power from the USB Port?

Have you tried connecting to a different Port?

thanks for you reply. Yes I've tried all the usb ports, and the scanner has it's own power supply, but it doesn't really have an on switch the computer has to basically "wake it up"
