if you have a speaker icon by the clock, double left click it, if not go to start, control panel, soundsand audio devices, put a check in show icon on the task bar and apply, now if you have the volume sliders open, click options, now properties, make sure on the list in the box that appears you have the mic checked, click ok, now click the options tab again, select advanced, you should now have a advanced tab under the mic slider. click it, make sure the mic boost, or mic gain has a check in it, click close, make sure you have a check in mute for the mic slider, if you dont you will get killer feddback, it dont stop the mic from working. go back the the options tab, select properties, then under the adjust voulme for area, put a dot in recording, click ok. now make sure you have a check in all the boxes on the list under show all volume controls, then click ok, make sure the mic has a check under it on this screen, to select it as the input device. hope this fixes you up.
