GeForce FX 5200
I've installed a Creative GeForce FX 5200 on my PC, but when I try to run a game, the system crashes completely!
I work under Windows XP, but I've tried the card also under 98SE, with worst results.
May someone help me, giving me some advice other than downloading new drivers from NVIDIA or Creative (already tried that!)?

what games are crashing on you in XP also you would of been better posting this in the Xp room mate, have you been to the websites of the games and checked the patches they ahve to run smotther under XP? also have you got all the updates from Microsoft for Xpo aswell as the patche from there that helps from games crashing in XP. click on tools at the top of the page click on updates then when you get the list check the none critical list you will see a patche for games stops. as for drivers i know you say you have tryed them but what drivers are you using now? also when you installed your drivers you did uninstall the old ones first? if not you will get problems, you ahve to make sure all remenants of old drivers are deleted for a better install of the latest drivers.n also what are the specs of your computer?.

Yes, I've uninstalled the old drivers, and I forgot to tell that I had the same problems (worst, in fact) running under Win 98SE.
Under 98 I got a system crash already on system start, halfway trough the opening sound.
Under XP I still can watch DVDs, DivXs and freely browse through Internet or edit pictures, but when I run a game, I get a system crash.
Fortunately, by pressing the power button under XP I still get a soft off, so I don't have to recover system files and so on...

If your problem is occuring with games only you may have a heat problem.
Does the card have a cooling fan that you can check during gameplay?

EXACTLY what i now would say after reading again, it only crashes after putting your card under strain. you need to check out some more cooling for your pc.

well if that is the case and your cooling is good you ahve updated clean installed drivers, if you ahve checked for all patche releases for your games if you ahve updated all critical updates from Microsoft including the patche from microsft for game hanging and crashing. then you ahve a hardware issue, so either your card is faulty when put under stress or you motherboard is faulty. i cannot think of anything else as you seem to ahve all the bases covered.

Could this problem be related to the DirectX 9 and FX card problem?
If you have DirectX 9 on your PC, no matter which OS, you'll have problems with the 3D function. Try uninstalling DirectX 9, not easy, but there are programs that can help you with this, and install DirectX 8.1!

i have the same card in my personal machine, dx9a, the only things mine had trouble with, i had to disable all the nvidia crap, in services the nvidia driver helper, in startup, the nvcpl, nvmctray, and nwiz. the only other thing i suggest is not to use the driver downloaded from the microsoft site from windows update drivers. get the update from the nvidia site. what chipset does your motherboard have?

hey KNOWN_CRIMINAL and the other guy
i have the eaxct same card
(geforce fx 5200 128mb agp)
same one, mine doesnt crash but its doesnt handle video games too well either. just put it this way, the card isnt good.
but there should be no reason for the thing to crash like you say it is.
tell me everything your system has on it (ram, memory ETC.) maybe that might be the case.

hi ppl same problem here , my system keeps crashuign with a blues screen , i first tried to zero out the various other errors , like Ram mobo , hard disk etc etc , but i gave it to a pro and he told me it could be a conflict with ur AGp card , what happense is for the first time i power on , it work for an hour and half , ( any program ) , after which it hangs with a blue screen and then just never stays on for more than 10 mts , keeps hanging ...
is there any soft for checking heating of video card etc ..
will be really grateful for this
If its any help i got one cooling fan , and i dont run too heavy programs..

AMD64 2800+
1 GB RAM
120 GB sATA hard Disk Seagate
Gforce XFX 5200 AGP 8x

Best thing is to use another card in your machine to see if the problem remains and also try your card in another machine to see if the problem moves, trying both these options will confirm whether the card is faulty or not.
Also if your PC is shop bought (not home built) take it back for testing/warranty repair.
