this could be cause by many things, 1 the ribbon cable makes a difference, if you added the drive to a existing cable that had a pio, or older ultra drive, it may not detect the drive correctly. if the drive came in a pc that was bought new, contact the manufacturer if it is still in warranty. if not look up your computer makers web site, then your model number, look for firmware updates, bios updates that address this issue, can also check the phillips site. i bought a phillips2400 about a year ago, actually two identical, 1 i used the other in my dads machine. they never worked right, wouldn't read some disk, some they made they wouldn't read, some files they burned were unusable, had phillips replace mine, same trouble, my replacement quit 1 week out of warranty. my dads still works, badly, but i bought a samsung and love it. someone bought a magic spin drive, i installed it, the only way it would burn was from the nero software that came with it. still works fine, but upgrades to newer versions of nero have not been successful.
