Question Is there a alternative driver to Legacy Audio Driver in XP?

Hi guys

I have recently reinstalled windows xp, and i have noticed my audio driver is showing as Legacy audio driver which wasnt the case before reinstalled xp. I can't exactly remember what drivers i had but the volume was alot louder and plus in the volume options i have surround/3d sound option which was
great but i don't have it now. Anybody know of a alternative to these Legacy drives, ifso which ones and how do i get rid off the current ones, as i cannot find a option to delete them in system properties.

Thanks

dave

would depend on who make your sound card, is it on-board or a card? if its a card who makes it, and are there any model# or identifing #s at all on it, if it is on-board, who made it and whats the model number, if the computer is a "brand" name pc like dell, toshiba, hp, post the make, model and serial number.

Hi, Some audio card drivers have both modern and legacy drivers. They usually ask you if you want legacy. It could also be in the BIOS Setup. If both are loaded it should still work. Legacy would be for DOS programs. Hope this helps a little, Jim

Smile No however

It is possible to fix the isue on a Dell computer by updateing to Windows XP service pack 2. then the audio driver and program will install corectly.

Legacy vs Realtek???

I am getting frustrated. I purchased MSI VR601 laptop (with Intel GL960 + ICH8M chipset and an 80 GB SATA disk) - witout a floppy drive, of course. I ha installed Windows XP Sp2. There is no SATA driver. So I used Nlite to intergrate the SATA driver into Windows and installed it. Works like a charn. But the enclosed Realtek device driver either doesn't install, or it installs without any effect at all. Device Manager lists under Sound, Video and Game Controllers only Legacy Audio Drivers and Legacy Video Capture Devices. No Realtek, whilst the MSI specification states, that the laptop is equipped with 8.1 channel Azalia sound (RealTek ALC883).
Whatever I try, original Windows, Windows with the SATA driver, supplied audio driver, driver from Realtek webwsite, nothing works. Can anyone help?
