dead post

hey tool, just a question. how hard would it be to put a expiration date on post/threads? so that when a post is say.... a month old, it can no longer be replied to, if they want to ask something they have to make a new thread of their own, some of these people reply to post over a year old, the info in them is sometimes very outdated and i find myself reading post made ages back and all someone added was yea, that looks right, or something else even more stupid sounding. i hate when people dig up the dead.

I think that 1 month would be too quick to retire a post. Six months would be more like it. After all, when someone brings back an old post, it shows that they are trying to research their problem, rather then ask the same question over and over.( I realize that you weren't talking to me, but I felt like responding).

I don't know if the board tools (nothing personal Tool) would allow for killing/hiding? a thread and still make the thread accessible to the Search function. Being able to search through (all) old threads is too valuable a feature to give up.

i agree, i wouldnt want to lose any of the old post. and if it is a problem i wouldnt worry much with it. just thought if they could actually die at some point, i offered a month, but 6 is a good one too. i find myself reading post someone has dug up and notice i have posted on it and look at the date of the orriginal post which has been over a year at times. most of the time they will say something like i have the same problem can you help me, well no we cant because you have not listed anything about your situation, hardware, software or anything that would give us a clue to your personal situation.

There are hacks (modifications). But the problem is they stop working when the forum is upgraded to newer version.
