Problem Possibly Direct X 9

Hey,

Recently I needed to install a game for someone in the family (Seaworld Adventure Park Tycoon) and it needed DirectX9 so I installed it off the disk, but then I started getting my problem - whenever anyone plays that game, or Impossible Creatures (by Microsoft) the game will just freeze randomly with no warning, and I have nothing to do but push the restart button. If I play Counter-Strike sometimes it freezes but it also will tend to just restart without warning. I have the latest drivers and:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
1.53 GHz
512 MB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 (Might be a cause)

I tried a system restore back to before I got DirectX 9 and reinstalled it all again, yet still the problem occurs.

*Edit* I also got the Windows Service Pack 2, but after the problem happened. Also I lost my sound temporarily since I got SP2 :P

Thanks in advance

Wow.

This is a first.

I also got the Windows Service Pack 2, but after the problem happened. Also I lost my sound temporarily since I got SP2

^ What the.. haha. look under your sound card and update the driver.

(Seaworld Adventure Park Tycoon) and it needed DirectX9 so I installed it off the disk, but then I started getting my problem

^Which version DirectX9 you installed?

If I play Counter-Strike sometimes it freezes but it also will tend to just restart without warning.

^Seems to be overheating problem or something wrong with electricity running thru. Counter-Strike is a old game engine, Your CPU and graphic card can be somewhat good enough to play it.

Try installing DirectX9c

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

System: 500MHz Pentium II or equivalent
RAM:64 MB RAM
CD-ROM: 4X CD-ROM
Video Memory: 8 MB VRAM
Hard Drive Space: 700 MB

^Requirement.

You seem to pass all the requirement. I'm just guessing the DirectX9 you install doesn't work well with it?

Try the DirectX9c you probably have B installed.

I have had very similar problem. I've taken SP2 off and that brought my sound back. I still am getting random crashing though. I'm hoping for a reply myself on this issue.

Talking video drivers and stupid sp 2

i had the exact same problem as you guys (without the sound dissapearing) i had "Return to castle wolfenstein: enemy territory" and "The Sims 2" on my computer both of which worked fine untill service pack 2 was installed. i would try uninstalling Sp2, and re-download directx 9c at the previously specified location. Then reinstalling your video drivers, after i did this the sims2 was purring along just fine. hope it helps

im thinking that it has something to do with the video card/drivers being incompatible or touchy with service pack 2 because it seems many people are having this same problem.
