X-Box question...

A gamer friend of mine insists that the X-Box smokes any gaming pc setup, poly and speed wise. Is this true? Having a ti4600 I have my doubts, but I can see his point that the X-Box doesn't have an OS to run, thus it doesn't have to work as hard. He also says the newest X-Box is going to run GeForce 5 technology. Anybody know? Thankx. ¦o)

I think it is pretty fast, but its surely not the best on the market. From a game developers point of view, Gamecube is the best system to make games for by far, dispite not having the best specs. But, because it still uses cartriges instead of CD/DVDs, many game developers have moved away from it. The PS2 rocks, its probably your best bet. Noone is unsatisfied with the PS2. A PS2 can function as a CD player, a DVD player, and can play all PS1 games as well as PS2 games. There will always be the most games for PS2, and they have many great games. Game developers have complained about the difficulty for making games on both the PS2 and the X-box however. X-box really only has one good game, Halo. Also, I believe X-box does have an OS in its innards, some kind of TCPA degraged windows. X-box has sold very poorly, maybe the next X-box will be much better, but so far, X-box has been a flop. Here are some sales figures (for Japan I believe):

"This morning, Media Create sent out the latest Japanese hardware figures, this time covering the week ending December 1st. This past week seemed to once again bode very well for Nintendo, with Game Boy Advance units leading the way with 145,900 sold. Meanwhile, PlayStation 2 followed with 66,300, GameCube shot up to 35,100 units, and Xbox once again saved itself from the three digit numbers by hitting 3,100 units sold. With Zelda: The Wind Waker only a week away, next week?s charts should be very interesting indeed.

Game Boy Advance: 145,900 (Annual: 2,459,300)
PlayStation 2: 66,300 (Annual: 3,167,900)
GameCube: 35,100 (Annual: 958,500)
Xbox: 3,100 (Annual: 276,786)
PlayStation: 2,100 (Annual: 208,100)
Wonder Swan Crystal: 1,100 (Annual: 103,600)
Game Boy Color: 800 (Annual: 80,400)
Wonder Swan Color: 550 (Annual: 115,500)
Nintendo 64: 54 (Annual: 6,000)
Game Boy: 47 (Annual: 5,100)
Wonder Swan: 43 (Annual: 8,100)
Dreamcast: 38 (Annual: 17,500)
PocketStation: 37 (Annual: 1,300)"

I have all the major consoles, and the XBOX is my favorite hands down- the graphics are quite lovely and speed is good.

HOWEVER, it certainly isn;t going to be replacing my Athalon 2100+/GeForce 4 TI 4600 vid card setup any time soon...

I have the PS2, the game cube, and the XBOX, and the only game I have for the famed GC that is good , is Metroid Prime. and it is my current favorite. but I would not trade my XBox for all the PS2 and GC games in the world. the ps2 is pitifully slow, the gamecube is kinda more geared toward a 10 year old (save for Resident Evil and Metroid, though there's nothing harsh about Metriod, it is just a tad difficult). Good games on the ps2, if you have all day to wait for them to load and play, and the Xbox has those darn goofy controllers.
On the operating system question, Yes it does have a very, very locked down, limited and watered down version of windows 2000 to control the ins and outs of the piracy, cd and dvd playback, but Ido have a problem getting it to recognize cd-rw's--- both music and VCD, but my PS2 does the same thing, so no love lost. in my opinion, the XBox is the best, but so was dreamcast, and look at that now!

The XBOX is by far the best console!!!!
The Game cube is better than the ps2 but no where no as good as the Xbox.
Unfortanatley the ps2 is far behind these 2 consoles but defenitley has the best game selection as it can also play ps1 games.

The XBOX runs with an intel 700 mhz processor and has a modified Geforce 3 in it.
The gamecube has around a 450 mhz processor in it and uses some kind of ATI video card.
Where as the ps2 only runs at 200 mhz with a video that is slighty better in some ways than the gamecubes video card.
Its a pitty that Xbox used an intel processor rather than a AMD processor which would give better gaming performance.

I don't know where ur friend got the idea of a geforce 5 in the xbox when Nvidia have stopped using numbers for there video cards. They are currently releasing there new video card called the Geforce FX. And the next xbox might have an ATI video card in it rather than an nvidia video card because of some dispute between xbox and nvidia (nothing serious).

The ps3 will have a 4ghz (4000mhz) processor in it. Which will make it very exspensive when it is released in 2005.

The only reason that these consoles seem faster and are faster than a pc , is because they have technology in them that makes everything alot faster sort of like what is in the AMD athlon xp processors which makes them give more performance than the actual speed of the processor.

Well, they're faster mainly because they are running applications (games) that are 100% optimized for that specific hardware. PC game shave to be optimized to run on a wide variety of CPU/video/sound combinations, and as such trade-offs must often times be made. Since all Xbox's are identical hardware wise, the developers can squeeze every last drop of performance out of what it has.

the main reason they are faster though, is because a computer has to render at least a 800x600 screen compared to tv resolution settings of 320x240. then when you consider that most entry level gamers run their resolution settings at 1024x 768, which is more than 3 times the amount of area, it is no wonder that consoles seem faster than your premium gaming rig.

i like the xbox as well, but unfortunately, the numbers aren't looking to great for it. i hope that they can hang in there long enough to release the xbox2, which may have a PVR built in, and not have to play a year and a half worth of catching up to sony's new console.

Well i did some research and i am telling u know that xbox will always be around. It is estimated that with in this year xbox will make more sales than ps2. They are catching up fast. Looks like game cube is lagging way behind with no where near as much sales as these other 2 consoles.

GC needs WAY more good game titles. Sure they have Metriod (which 'm still looking to get), but most of their other titles with few exceptions (Near Dark, etc.) are geared to the kiddie crowd.

metroid: great game, but i don't have enough time to devote to it, like i did when the original came out.

and i sure hope you are right about the xbox, cause if it does go the way the dreamcast went, i will be hiking one way to the tallest cliff around here.

I think the ps3 controllers will let down the ps3 sales because did u see the ps3 controllers they look like bannanas if u through it it would most likely it would fly back around and smack u in the face i don't know what sony was thinking.
