why can't me and friend host games on warcraft 3?

Hi guys,
Me and my friend both now have warcraft 3 and the expansion but neither of us can host a game. If one hosts a game and the other joins it, it shows up on the list but we can not connect it gives a message saying game not found blah blah. We are both running under the win xp firewall on sp2 is their ports we need to open or what.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
