Ulitimate lag :(

Hey everyone, i play alot of online games (well not alot but the few i play i spend ages on) and they were all working fine until liek a month ago when i had a hardware problem with my video drivers. i took apart my comp and found that it was loose so i put it back in and rebooted my comp and it seemed to have fixed it, but ever since then my lag has been getting increasingly worse. it was just a little bit at firt but now i lag for liek 20 seconds every few steps in teh game. i thought this was prob just because i have a crappy broadband and stuff so i went to play offline games (like moha) and they lag liek that too. its really pissing me off i reinstalled all the new drivers and it still happens anyone got any ideas?
my video card is a Nvidia GeForce Fx 5200

hey, have you got any additional crap ( by crap i mean : MSN messenger, Norton) running in the background using up valuable resources, take a look at the 'processes' tab on the task manager window (do not touch anything that has the users name as: system or network service etc only ones with ur username on them)
Also wot processor hav u got?
I dont think it is anything to do with ur graphics card (I have the smae one and it works fine on full settings in CS:source)

If you have a slow machine, strip msconfig in safe mode, download all bios and firmware, driver updates.

ok this is what you do if you dont want any lag.
first of all I strongle sugest that you get rid of Norton. trust me I had it, and all it does is lag up you computer.
Make shure you dont have any adware, or spyware on your computer. That will lag up your comp badly too. Get something like Spybot:http://www.download.com/Spybot-Searc...-10401314.html
Uselly I use Spy Sweeper or NoAdware
Make shure you dont have any firewall. You dont need it.
Now go to Start-Run-write in "msconfig". Click on Startup and get rid of anything that you dont need to run in the background.
Defragment your comp, and clear up more space for you computer.
These are just some basic things you need to do if you dont want your computer to lag.
Now if its still lagging, then I would suggest rebooting your comp or getting it fixed.
