Ultima Online
Starting UP
INstalliing UO
Note: Before installing Ultima Online: Age of Shadows, we recommend running a thorough scan disk and disk defragment of your hard drive.
To install Ultima Online: Age of Shadows, place the game CD into your CD or DVD drive. The Install screen should appear. However, if you do not have Autorun enabled, you will need to manually start the install program. To do this, open ‘My Computer’ and double-left-click your CD or DVD drive icon, then double-left-click the file named setup.exe.
Note: Experienced users may follow the onscreen instructions after this point. For detailed instructions, keep reading.
Select Ultima Online: Age of Shadows Installation.
Click NEXT to continue.
Choose a directory on your hard drive for installation. C:/Program Files/Ultima Online Age of Shadows is the default. (Ultima Online: Age of Shadows will not allow you to install to an existing Ultima Online directory.)
To install to a different directory, type a drive and directory name in the top box. If the directory does not yet exist, the program will ask you to create it. Left-click YES to create it, NO to return to the previous screen and select a different directory.
Click NEXT to continue.
Install DirectX 8.1 drivers for your hardware if necessary. If the required drivers are already installed on your computer, the installation program will prompt before reinstalling the drivers.
Ultima Online: Age of Shadows requires DirectX version 8.1 or higher. To check your version number, run DXSETUP.EXE or DXDIAG.EXE. For additional information on DirectX installations, please see the Troubleshooting section of this manual.
Click NEXT to continue.
Along with Ultima Online: Age of Shadows, you'll also be getting the following utility program that will help you find your way around the various towns and dungeons:
UO Auto Map is a utility designed to supplement Ultima Online’s built-in map system. It can be run in conjunction with Ultima Online and offers enhanced mapping options.
Creating an account
Creating An Account
You must create an account after you install the game. You will need to have a web browser installed on your computer and an active internet connection. Regular installation will bring up the account setup steps automatically after the game software has been installed. Account setup is a separate option under Advanced installation. In either case the steps to create an account are the same. NOTE: you must be at least 18 years old to create an account in Ultima Online: Age of Shadows.
First, the account setup software opens your web browser. If you use a dial-up internet connection, you should logon prior to running the account setup. Many browsers, however, will initiate the dial-up procedure automatically.
Once your browser displays the account registration site, select “Create an Account.”
The next step is to enter your registration code. You can find this on the case that contained your Ultima Online: Age of Shadows CD.
The next screen you will see displays the terms and conditions governing accounts in the game. Accepting these conditions takes you to the next step. If you select Decline, the account setup process ends at this stage.
Next is the screen featuring the Rules of Conduct for the game. Ultima Online, by virtue of being an online game world populated by thousands of other people, has to set limits on certain extreme forms of player behavior. As is the case with the Terms Agreement, selecting Accept moves you onto the next step in setting up your account; selecting Decline ends the process.
Account Management is the next step. On the first screen we ask you to provide us with information about yourself: your name, address, email address, daytime phone number, and age. On the second screen you select a name and password for your account. The former must be unique. Thus it may take a few tries before you create one the system will accept. If you have your heart set on a specific user name, and you’re told that it already exists, in most cases you can simply add a number to the end to get the name accepted.
On the next screen you select your payment plan. The first 30 days are free, regardless of whether you select a payment plan at this time or not.
The final screen is your account summary, and a link to UO HOME – the main UO Web site where you can learn of events, news, and other useful information about Ultima Online: Age of Shadows. At this point, account setup is complete. You can close your browser and finish the installation process.
Shard Selection
Shard Selection
Ultima Online uses a multi-shard (or multi-server) system to maintain many different copies of the world. Choosing the shard you wish to play on is an important part of the process of starting out in Ultima Online.
Our shards are located around the world, allowing you to choose a shard that is located geographically close to you and thus ensure a robust connection to the game.
The shards are currently located as follows:
North American East
Chesapeake
Atlantic
Catskills
Lake Superior
Great Lakes
Siege Perilous
AOL Legends North American West
Baja
Lake Austin
Pacific
Napa Valley
Sonoma Western Europe
Europa
Drachenfels Japan
Hokuto
Yamato
Asuka
Wakoku
Izumo
Mizuho
Mugen
Sakura
Korea
Arirang
Balhae Taiwan
Formosa Australia
Oceania
With the exception of the Siege shards (Siege Perilous and Mugen), all shards use identical lands and systems. The Siege shards are an 'advanced' server for veteran players, and new accounts are unable to access these shards until they have accrued a minimum of 40 hours of total Ultima Online playtime.
To choose a shard, select it from the shard list in your interface. As you run your mouse over each shard, the shard name will highlight with gold trim. A selected shard will be highlighted in white.

Creationg a character
Now that you've chosen a shard, you'll need to create your first player character. Your player character (or PC) will be your representation in the world of Ultima Online and will be visible to any other players who interact with you.
Note: Here is a simple rule to keep in mind: You are unlikely to continue playing your first character once you begin to grow accustomed to Ultima Online. And that's perfectly all right. Think of your first character as the one you use to dip your toes into the virtual world of Britannia and test the water.
To create a new character, click on any "Create New Character" bar on the Character Selection menu. This will open the Character Customization screen, allowing you to customize the look of your character.
If you are using the 2D version, the first step in creating a character is to pick a profession. 3D users will need to pick a profession after they’ve set up their character.
Choosing a Profession
Ultima Online uses a skill-based advancement system; meaning that you choose your path in Britannia by the skills you focus your attention on. With over 48 different skill types, you may customize your character in nearly any way you wish by mixing and matching complimentary skills.
However, we certainly don't expect you to understand each and every skill on your first day in Britannia, so we've created a series of templates: Warrior, Magician, Blacksmith, Paladin, and Necromancer. You may choose a character template, and your skills will automatically be set to those we feel are optimal for a starting character.
Hint: the 'Warrior' option is suited for the typical fantasy hero or heroine. Choose this option if you're interested in fighting monsters or slaying dangerous beasts. The ‘Magician’ option is for those that prefer the mystic art of magery. Choose this option if you’re interested in using spells to defeat your foes. The 'Blacksmith' option is suited towards a more peaceful life in Britannia. Choose this option if you enjoy chatting, social interaction, and crafting trade goods. The 'Paladin' option is for those who prefer the virtuous way of life. Choose this option if you wish to play a warrior with special Paladin abilities. The 'Necromancer' is a follower of the dark arts. Choose this option if you wish to play a spellcaster that uses dark magic as their weapon.
The 'Advanced' option is for those players that are already comfortable with the UO skill system, and are interested in building a character from scratch.
The Advanced character selection allows you to manipulate your attributes directly by dragging the brass sliders to the desired settings, and you can change your skills by clicking on the Skill field on the lower right of the screen. The text window will change to a list of skills. Simply click on the one you want and it will move to that field. You can then adjust the slider to determine how many points you wish to allocate to that skill. Remember that you only have so many points to distribute across all three skills!
You begin with 100 skill points that may be adjusted between your three starting skills, or you may choose to leave the skills at their default settings.
Additionally, you begin with 80 points distributed between Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. The minimum for a starting attribute is 10, the maximum, 60.
Strength governs how much you can carry, how much damage you can do in combat, and which weapons and armor you may use. Your Strength score is also used to calculate your maximum Hit Points, which determine how much damage you can take before dying.
Dexterity governs how quickly you react. Your Dexterity score is used to calculate your maximum Stamina, which determines how long you may keep moving, fighting, or engaging in other strenuous activity.
Intelligence is extremely important to a number of skills, including Magery and many craft and lore skills. Intelligence is also used to calculate your maximum Mana, which determines how much energy you have available for spell casting at any given moment.
Note: It is not advised that you change these attributes and skills until you are experienced in the game.
Selecting a Name
Your character's name is probably the first impression other players will have of you. Offensively named characters may be assumed to be offensive and treated rudely. If you wish to be taken seriously, choose a name for your character wisely, as your character will be stuck with it for life.
Ultima Online allows redundant naming, so there may be other characters at loose in the world with a name identical to yours. Most names are allowed, although egregiously offensive names are screened, and a few names of important characters (e.g., British, Blackthorn) are reserved.
Customizing Your Appearance
Once you've decided on your name, it's time to mold your character to look the role. An alcove on the screen shows the current state of your figure. This figure will represent you in the game, so you should take your time and decide what you want to look like.
On the left you will see a list of physical attributes you can change about your figure. Simply double-click on each field to see the pull-down menu of possible options for that field. Once you make a selection, the appropriate change will appear on your character. Unselect the attribute to change back, select another attribute to try another style.
You may choose your gender, skin color, hairstyle and color, pants/skirt color and, if you've chosen to play a male character, facial hair style and color.
For example, to change your hairstyle and color, select the 'Hairstyle' option. You will be presented with a scrolling list of hairstyle choices. As you click on each choice, it will appear on your character. If you wish to change to a different hairstyle, simply select the 'Hair Select' option again.
Once you've chosen a hairstyle, you may want to change your hair color. Select the 'Hair Color' option. You will be presented with a palette of available hair colors. To preview hair colors on your character, simply hold your mouse pointer over each color. The color preview will appear on your paperdoll. To choose a hair color and return to the main menu, single-click the color choice.
When you are satisfied with your name and appearance, click the small green arrow to continue.
Entering Britannia
Once you have chosen a starting profession, you are ready to choose your starting city. A map of Britannia will appear, with possible starting cities written on it. The exact cities available to you as starting locations depending on what profession you selected. As you click on a city name, a description of the city will appear in the text box. Once you pick a city, click the Next button to continue.

Haven and the UO Tutorial
Accepting The Invitation
The first time you log in, you will receive an invitation to take the tutorial. Given the depth and complexity of this game, players must enter the tutorial at least once. We strongly suggest you accept the invitation on continual occasions, until you feel comfortable with playing the game. After this initial entry, players will be able to exit the tutorial as desired. This tutorial is not a dry series of help screens. Instead it is a guided walk-through of the game environment that teaches you important basics, such as how to move around, how to fight, and how to interact with the world. It also has the virtue of being brief. New players will also be able to review parts of the tutorial at will, via the help selection menu.
Visiting Haven
Once you complete the tutorial, you will be taken to Haven. Haven is a city where new players can learn “the ropes” of Ultima Online. Since all players exiting the tutorial will need to become comfortable with their new skills, Haven provides a safe venue where that can be done. When you feel comfortable, you can choose to learn the more advanced features of the game.
In Haven, you will be able to find Companions. Companions are players who choose to spend their time in Haven helping new players and answering any questions you may have. In addition to Companions, Haven will have smarter NPCs (Non-Player Characters) than the rest of Britannia. Non-Player Characters are characters that are operated by computer, rather than by human players. If asked, they will be able to give clear directions, tell you where the nearest Companion is and, if you are at the correct station, they will be able to give you instruction on how to use a skill. For instance, if you wish to learn how to blacksmith, the Haven blacksmith could provide you with tools, materials, and basic instructions.
Hint: To seek out instruction in a particular skill, find its associated NPC by double-clicking the NPC to view its paperdoll. For example, to learn about blacksmithing, seek out the NPC blacksmith in Haven and ask him (or her) to teach you about blacksmithing.
Being Young
When you set foot in Britannia for the very first time, you will be considered a “young” player and be granted certain privileges and rights as such. Shards like Siege Perilous, Mugen, and Baekdu (Siege shards) are shards for advanced players only. Players with "Young" status cannot access them. This status grants you certain forms of protection unavailable to more experienced players, including:
Young players may not damage other players, nor may other players damage young players.
Monsters that would normally react in a hostile manner will not attack new players unless they are quest monsters.
Young players will be teleported to a healer upon dying and will retain any belongings.
Young players can insta-log anywhere.
Young players may not loot monsters they did not kill for two minutes after the death of the monster.
Other players may not loot monsters killed by young players.
Young players may not steal from other players or NPCs.
Losing Young Status
“Young” status is affected by your total playtime with your account, and is not calculated on a per-character basis. A player loses their "Young" status if their account age goes above more than 40 hours and their characters:
Have more than 450 total skill points
Have 'young' status revoked by a Game Master
Players can also end their “Young” status by saying the words, "I renounce my young player status".
Starting Equipment
When you first arrive in Britannia, you will be in a public area of the city you selected. Your initial possessions are:
A shirt
Shoes
A pair of breeches or a skirt (depending on your character's gender)
A backpack
A candle
A blank book (your "diary")
Basic equipment for your starting skills
1000 gold pieces
Initial objects have no monetary value to any of the merchants in the game.
well that's all for my story...you can find much more in google but this you can find olnly here beacouse i write all by myself!!!!!
