Unhappy The Sims 2 Problem!

Hi Guys

Was just wondering if anyone could help me - I'm having problems with running my version of the Sims 2 University. I've been playing it for over a year now and it's worked fine. I haven't played it for a couple of months but now whenever I go to turn it on, I get the error message:

Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate.

I have been having driver issues (see my thread in the drivers forum). I've downloaded DirectX 9.0c three times now - I've heard of this kind of problem on other computing forum sites but no one seems to be able to come up with a solution...

If anyone has any advice for me I'd be really grateful. Thanks in advance.

The Sims 2 or The direct X? I have uninstalled direct X several times, but I haven't uninstalled the Sims as I have read on several different forums that this didn't solve the problem.
