Planetside Lag!

Ok, I have a question... I'm running on a 1.3ghz p4,64meg geforce4, and 256rdram. My conn. is 1mb/300+ cable. Is the main reason I lag like if I was running on a mac because of the low ram? I know the min. requirement is 512, but I wanna make sure that if I upgrade, it will fix the lag problem. So... Yeah, help plz.

Ram may help and may not, it won't hurt. Having more should speed up your whole system.

You also may want to check for patches/updates.

Also see if there are new drivers for you NIC.

Are you running a bunch of programs in the background? Are you running the latest video drivers?

Video drivers are up to date... and yeah, norton/firewall.

Your video card, a GF4, what?? MX? 4200?

If its only a Mx then chances are that could be your biggest problem. But a stick of 256mb ram at say Newegg is cheap.

My vote is a stick of ram.

At least 1gb of memory and 128/256 graphics card is required to play Planetside properly.

You won't ever fully eradicate the lag during heated battles in this game but the recommendations above will go a long way to helping your situation.

When I first started playing Planetside I had a PIII 1.4, 256mb of PC100 and an ATI 9600pro 128mb. It was not playable really until I upped the memory to 1gb.

I now have a P4 2.4, 1gb Memory and an ATI 9800pro 128mb that runs allot better but I still lag a small amount during large battles.

I know people running AMD dual core processor machines that still expiriance the lag issues and feel that the Wearner server is at fault.
