Using games on a notebook from a pc

ok so my pc broke and i bought a new notebook hp pavillion
and i went to put i my Sims Deluxe game to work and
it installed fine and worked and everything
but when i start it up and go to play it
all the effects and graphics freeze.
i was wondering how i can fix this
like do i have top downloaod new graphics or something for it to not freeze

I gather you have Vista...try this right click on the short cut to Sims and select>properties>compatibility>choose XP.
