My game The Sims for pc is acting up can anyone help

When its starting the game up (you know were the sims goes up on the sceen and the music is playing) it will take me back to deckyop like I haven't even click on anythhing. Could anyone please help me fix it

well it is the sims deluxe adition. and it was made in 1999 and that is all know. oh and my computer is windows xp

ok it is a pc-cd and it was made from electronic arts. and its os is windows xp9895. and it is a cd dvd rom

My friend has th exact same problem and she has Win xp running on a P4 1.5ghz with an Ecs mobo.
