Which Geforce4 ti4200?

Edited by Cyberdan3 on Apr 10 2003 1:43PM

I believe I am going to upgrade to a Geforce4 ti-4200, since Nvidia emailed me telling me I could not use dual monitors to watch movies on the tv with me Sony Geforce4. i guess it isn't OEM certified or something. Well anyways, I want to know you guys' thoughts on a geforce 4 ti4200. Do I really need the 8X AA? I want to be able to have a very smooth game with maxed settings, and be able to use the computer. My video card is the only thing that needs upgrading at the moment (from a Geforce 4 MX440 64mb)
Other than that, I have:

2.53 ghz
512 mb RAM
120 GB HD

Will this card be a good match? I can get it untill Saturday for $109 at Best Buy. Is it worth it? Which manufacturer is the best for the ti-4200? I have heard of MSI and PNY but I dont know if it matters. Please give me some feedback.

I have heard of problems with Radeon. I picked up the ti-4200 last night, installed it, and it works fine, except under properties, it does not show the "device selection" tab. For add-in manufactured cards, do you just plug cables into the back and your done??

DAMN!!! missed another one! I was thinking of going for a ti 4200, but i kept on waiting for the "right moment". the FX's are coming. and some will be priced in line with the 4200. there is going to be a 5200, 5600, and 5800. the 5800 ultra is going to be the shiznit, with the 5200 being the bottom dollar card. but they will all have support for DX9, and the 5600 spanks the ti 4600 with the all the settings on high.
also, there are lots of good manufacturers. i have been reading lots of reviews, and it seems like ASUS, MSI, and a smaller company called Palit are doing a good job. I liked Palit's idea of a no frills video card. they don't include any retarded demo cd's or extras that cost you money. just a good card, and that is all you pay for.

Ok first of all some knowledge!

The GeForce FX most of the lower line FX family members are slower than standard G4 TI cards the 5200 is slower than the 4200 TI Geforce 4. Geforce 5600 FX and above are obviously alot faster than the TI 4600 and above but nVidia have been a bit lame by using there new Detonator FX drivers to make benchmarks tests such as 3Dmark03 give a higher results than they are actually doing.

But my main point is if you want an awesum card get what i have there very rare:
ELSA GeForce 3 TI500 Morpheus 128mb

its a totally awesum card it uses the GeForce 4 TI4600 BIO's and the memory bandwidth is 3 Gb faster than the Geforce 4 TI4600 its a awesum card.

ATi Suck dont get one there cards have many issues on them nVidia own and always will own and the new FX 5900 Ultra destorys the 9800 Radeon

Ati crashes? Ati suck?? Sounds more like opinion than fact.

Can either of you give some proof to these statements?

Or are you both stubborn Nvidiots?

And yes I have Nvidia cards in my systems but I have read enough reviews and talked to enough people to know that Ati has cleaned up their act. Big time. While Nvidia is having all kinds if problems. Cheating on test scores being one of them.

Still waiting for a new Nforce2 driver since the last ones tanked.

Well some proof would be at tomshardware guide where they reviewed ati's and nvidia's new cards and it tells u that Ati's card crashed 3 times in unrealtournament 2003. And as for the cheating mate i was just as disappointed as you were to read on that till i read later it had been sorted and 3dmark have apoligized to nvidia for false ACCUSATIONS. Because what nvidia did was some optimizations for 3dmark in there new detonater driver making it run faster Ati have also been found to have been making optimizations in their drivers and so this issue is no longer an issue. So get YOUR facts straight. And these optimizations do not affect gameplay, only in 3d marks program.

Go to this webpage if you want to see how much the FX 5900 can kick the radeon 9800's but. http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...512/index.html

i've got MSI Geforce 4 Ti4200 8xAGP with 128MB and it's serving me well.. it's great when it comes to heavy graphic games like Doom 3 (in the future), warcraft 3 ROC, warcraft 3 ft, and etc.. MSI isn't that bad also. i like it becaue it has auto update that just pops up telling me that new driver has been posted.. that way my video card is always on top shape.. either MSI, ATI (very $$$), and last thing i would go is Nvidia...
