Question MTU Question

I have read that lowering one's MTU value will reduce the size of sent packets and result in a better online gaming experience.

By "better" I suppose is meant a slightly faster response to ones inputs.

I would appreciate views on this and if anyone agrees with lowering one's MTU, exactly what value is suggested?

I am running Windows XP Pro and have a DSL line that Pings around 140-150 to my favorite gaming servers. My default MTU value is set at 1492.
