ok, have you done the SP1 upgrade, and have you done the XP processor patch for the AMD chip?? Make sure you have the latest Gforce4 drivers..you oculd also try installing WinAmp3 This may work, it's an MP3 player and pretty good, will play almost any file, this could sort the MP3 codec warning. If this doesn't work i will have to look a little more into it.

For nVidia cards, the latest drivers are NOT allways the most stable ones. Currently Detonator 40.72.
If you can find older ones I would give it a shot.

Good luck.

I had the same issue with Max Payne. I solved it by running it in Win98 Compatibility Mode (right click the game icon, and look for the "Compatibility" tab- choose Win98 from the drop-down list). This was Win XP Pro, patched to SP1, running the latest patched version of Max. Runs like a charm now...

All I know you'll need drivers wise for the CPU/Motherboard are the VIA chipset update drivers as far as I know, and are for the MOTHERBOARD and not the CPU is my understanding. I just installed the drivers that came with my mobo, and they seem to work fine. You will only need VIA update drivers for mobos that use that chipset (ASUS is a big manufacturer that does).

I'm not finding anyhting for a Athalon-specific XP patch. Is it something in addition to the SP1 patch? If so, can you post a link to it?
