Seagate External HD

I am considering purchasing a
100GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive
Seagate Technology
Platform: B Mfr#: ST9100801U2-RK

This device comes with a USB Y-Cable on the PC Side. One end is for logic and power and the other end on the PC Side is for additional power (as needed). Does anyone have any experience with this drive? Do you really need to use both ends of the Y Cable to power and use this drive?

Thanks.

So, basically, is the situation that you only have one free USB port? I don't have any experience with these drives, but I'd say that the power will be needed for spin up and events like that. Takes a lot of juice to get a drive going. If you do only have one free usb port, get a USB 2.0 PCI card. Ther are cheap and they work.
