Fans? What's with them?

Seriously, what do they do. Do they push air out the hot air out of the case or actualy blow cool air on the parts? I've heard different people saying different things. Please help my simple, simple problem. Lol, and there I am reccomending parts and I don't even know what fans specificly do

Both. In my case I have 3 intakes, 1 in front & 2 on the side. I have 2 exaust, 1 in back & 1 on top. Then the power supply exaust.

Flyfsh is right. I have 4 fans that pull cool air across the mobo etc. (2 intakes and 2 exhausts). It's amazing how much cooler everything runs when you cable tie all the wires and junk out of the way.

The key word here is "windtunnel", get as much air passing unresticted through your case as possible, cool in from the bottom/sides, hot out from the top. Gigadave is correct, clean up your cables/wiring to exploit maximum airflow.
